Hungary’s unemployment rate rose to 4.8% in the June–August 2026 period, up from 4.6% a year earlier, marking the highest level since February 2026. The number of unemployed increased by 18.1 thousand year-on-year, reaching 234.7 thousand.

Of the total unemployed, 116.5 thousand were men, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 4.5%, while 118.2 thousand were women, with an unemployment rate of 5.1%. On average, job seekers spent 11.7 months looking for work.

Among the unemployed, 42.6% had been seeking work for less than three months, while the proportion of those looking for a job for more than a year rose by 4.2 percentage points to 33.7%.

At the same time, the number of employed persons fell by 24 thousand compared with a year earlier, to 4.655 million. Employment among men stood at 2.464 million, while employment among women declined by 18.5 thousand to 2.191 million.
